Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required
  • Five or more years of experience in a closely related field is preferred
  • Some experience in battery systems preferred
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred
  • High mechanical aptitude (excellent problem-solving skills)
  • Excellent interpersonal/team communication skills
  • CAD design experience (UG NX) helpful but not required
  • Experience with TeamCenter Visualization highly preferred
  • Excellent customer interaction skills processing the ability to create a design concept based on customer specifications
  • Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Reliability, and Design for Six Sigma experience desired
  • The successful candidate will be able to effectively present design proposals to internal and external technical teams
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/thermal/electrical mechanisms
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and excellent teamwork
  • Experience in DFMEA, DFM, DFR, and Engineering: 5 years

Job Description

  • Lead the subject area(s), define scope, select problems for investigation, formulate and present specific proposals
  • Lead the development of mechanical components from concept to serial production
  • Manage mechanical components in the program BOM, release components according to the program milestone requirements and assist with manufacturing engineering integration for product launch
  • Provide design and development support for prototypes, new products, tooling, and equipment
  • Provide general feasibility and timing data for specific component development within the overall new product program
  • Perform engineering activities within a specialized area such as: Battery Enclosures and Packaging, Mechanical/Structural Design, Thermal Design, System Integration
  • Communicate on a technical level with other functional areas internally and externally as appropriate to the project (e.g., marketing, sales, purchasing, customers, suppliers, consultants, etc.)
  • Lead design and release activities including DFMEA, supplier contact for identifying and ordering of mechanical components, APQP support, design confirmation, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and DVP&R support
  • Recommend and/or implement changes in present procedures, processes, materials, or equipment.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to the product, process and system
  • Coordinate engineering documentation and prepare new product development proposals for components
  • Support product development engineering initiatives for continuous improvements; provide engineering expertise to support associated program development and manufacturing integration
  • Identify concerns and initiate corrective actions relating to the product, process and quality systems
  • Initiate, recommend, execute and/or provide solutions through designated channels
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, suppliers, and customers
  • Support and adhere to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (TS 16949)
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
