Required Skills

  • A minimum of ten years of related experience
  • Experience managing a team of engineers in development of automotive projects
  • Experience managing the development and implementation of electro-mechanical products for the automotive industry preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 standard a plus

Job Description

  • Supervise Product Engineering personnel, evaluate capabilities, and identify gaps in customer support
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Develop potential new products using core product technology that provide benefit within a particular market segment, while meeting long term technical capability objectives, and providing a base for expansion into other related markets
  • Solicit potential customers for new product ideas and identifies lead customer candidates that have sufficient volume to support the development and implementation
  • Develop logical and realistic business cases for new product concepts that meet margin and return on investment goals
  • Secure new product development commitment(s) from interested customers that are substantive and sufficient to assure that the investment will be covered
  • Secure internal, external and customer funding sufficient to support the development and introduction of identified new products and / or projects
  • Develop alliances, ventures and outside business arrangements as required to insure that development time, out of pocket costs and risks are minimized while improving the new products chances for success
  • Develop strong customer support and technical relationships, and employs those relationships to guide the development of selected projects
  • Provide cradle to production engineering management including the primary responsibility for design, development, validation and resource direction
  • Personally develop designs, specifications, and any other engineering activity required to assure a successful new product implementation
  • Personally manage customer communications activities from cradle to first production along with program management
  • Solicit, identify and secure internal resources as required to support the development of identified product / projects
  • Provide direction and problem solving assistance to any and all parties involved in the new product implementation
  • Identify and secure outside suppliers to provide components, sub-assemblies and services that are not currently available within our existing supply base
  • Develop designs, sales, manufacturing training aids, engineering evaluation kits and support materials that insure that the new product smoothly transitions into operations
  • Meet the requirements of the Concept to Customer (C to C) System and assure all direct reports are able to meet the requirements of the system
  • Provide training to those with gaps
  • Maintain compliance to current ISO standards and customer specific requirements and company’s product development processes as applicable
  • Support, promote, and perform in a manner consistent with High Performance teams, continuous improvement goals, and values the company’s Automotive Division
