Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Addiction Medicine / Behavioral Health experience is preferred but we will consider new graduates
  • Medical Surgical experience is recommended
  • Addiction Medicine / Behavioral Health certification is not required but is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Current certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
  • Current State Licensure in good standing as a Physician Assistant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification Required
  • Additional certification in area of specialty may also be required
  • Evidence of completion at least 45 graduate hours in pharmacology from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation review on education for the physician assistant
  • Current DEA license and Illinois Controlled Substance License in good standing

Job Description

  • Assessment of Needs / Identification of Measurable Outcomes
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems
  • Performs and documents H&P's on new patients placed in Observation status, completing of medication reconciliations, and collaborates with the primary care physician, consultants and counselors to clarify patient and family goals, identify achievable therapeutic goals, and facilitate care in coordination with the interdisciplinary team
  • Develop and collaborate on medical treatment plans based on evidence-based practices and evaluate outcomes
  • Communicates and collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team to resolve patient care problems and enhance care delivery
  • Learns all medical protocols and procedures used by the organization and ensures compliance throughout the multidisciplinary team
  • Reports to the mid-level supervisor, medical director of the facility and CMO
  • Works collaboratively with nurses, counselors and other team members
