Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience
  • Setup CNC Equipment Experience required
  • Must have experience with PLC programing and editing experience 
  • Knowledge of abrasive machining where grinding wheels are used to perform internal diameter, outside diameter pathway, or centerless grinding
  • Working knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Ability to read machine or customer part blue prints
  • Strong knowledge of arithmetic and working knowledge of geometry
  • Basic computer skills and experience with hand tools, calipers, and dial indicators
  • General knowledge of material handling, manufacturing processes, quality control systems
  • On average, this job requires 3 months of on-the-job training to learn basic change-over tasks, 6 months to have a functional understanding of common type change tasks, and 2 to 3 years of training to become a skilled Type-Change (Change-Over) Mechanic

Job Description

  • A Change-Over Mechanic is the conversion of an entire manufacturing line from one product type to another
  • Change-Over Mechanic sets-up multiple machines to grind measure and assemble automotive wheel bearings
  • Operate multiple computerized grinding, measuring and machines
  • Correctly swap machine parts and material handling (conveyors and elevators) parts within time constraints
  • Save old programs, check and set machine parameters in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) according to operational specifications for different customer wheel bearings
  • Fine-tune mechanisms and calibrate gauges and machines for optimum performance
  • Measure components and parts with precision dial indicators or other instruments and resolve issues where components and parts do not meet customer specifications
  • Visually inspect components and parts for defects and solve identified issues
  • Obtain approval from the Quality Department to run production by measuring and printing graphs on the roundness and assisting the Quality staff checking roughness, and curvature of ground components
  • Follow all company rules and regulations related to environmental, health, and safety
  • Record quality inspection and type change items on check sheets
  • Apply principles of 5S to each line and type change parts so everything is organized and clean
