Required Skills

  • Must be us citizen or green card holder
  • Must have transmission or powertrain component costing experience to be considered
  • Must have sap knowledge
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, technical degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in automotive industry
  • Experience in cost estimating or related function
  • Possess exceptional problem-solving skills and be able to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work with people in multiple regions and functions in a collaborative manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Hands-on approach and willingness to take on actions beyond the definition of the role
  • Can work effectively with minimal direct supervision
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and SharePoint
  • SAP Knowledge
  • Effective cost estimating skills
  • Estimated 10-15% travel and ability to work occasional non-traditional business hours to support project as required

Job Description

  • The Purchasing / Cost Engineer will report to the Head of Advanced Purchasing
  • This person will support the organization by developing and maintaining accurate cost records for current and future projects
  • This person will have the ability to estimate new product costs based on component / system design and background, to support new business acquisition, and impacts of changes to design in order to support commercial sourcing negotiations
  • Coordinate and support current programs by accurately tracking and updating costs
  • Responsible for planning, administering and completing assigned tasks in support of purchasing cost programs
  • Affectively cost new designs based on production knowledge, available benchmarks, and component history
  • Communicate with program team members as required
  • Manage cost data in SAP
  • Track tooling and part costs associated with current and new programs, including changes during program development
  • Follow ECR process in order to update cost impacts as needed
